Patuxent Valley Middle School’s 8th Period programs will be running from October 18, 2016 thru May 18, 2017. The programs will run from 2:30pm – 4:10pm. Each program has a description, and it will be held during specific times of the year. Some programs will have limited availability. Students may bring a drink and snack to have at the beginning of the 8th period. As these programs are an extension of the school day, PVMS school rules and HCPSS policies still apply. Transportation may be provided. It is strongly suggested that parents transport their children from the school due to the limited bus transportation availability.

This program is by invite-only, and it will be held on Tuesdays. Students will learn the power of reading through an intervention program. Students will learn specific reading strategies that will support them in their classrooms. During the sessions, there will be time for students to work on homework reading assignments. Start Date: 10/18
This program is by invite-only, and it will be held on Thursdays. Students will receive instruction on Common Core Math skills. Teachers will be teaching through hands-on activities and games. During the sessions, there will be time for students to work on math class assignments and to review skills for upcoming assessments. Start Date: 10/20
This program is by invite-only, and it will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Teachers will support students with organization, study skills, and homework completion. Start Date: 10/18
Matthew Kreitzer and Taylor Stetka will be leading the International Sports Club (ISC) on Wednesdays. The club is designed to promote academic excellence as well as teamwork, sportsmanship, camaraderie, exercise, and fun. Bus transportation will not be provided to students participating in this program.

Bridget Jones will be running a Creative Writing club on Tuesdays this fall. The club will start Tuesday, October 18th. Permission forms will be distributed through English classes.
Jonathan Glanz will be facilitating Dungeons and Dragons this school year. The club will begin on Thursday, October 29th. Permission forms may be picked up in Mr. Glanz’s room. This afternoon activity has limited space due to the requirements of the game. The maximum number of participants is 15 students.
The All Sports Club will be running on Thursdays under the direction of Ben Goodwin. Each month a new sport will be highlighted for students to participate in. The maximum number of participants is 25 students. A permission form will be made available on the 15th of every month for students to sign up for the club.
The League of Gentlemen is a mentoring initiative to provide support for 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys mentally, socially, emotionally and academically. League Gentlemen serves as an outlet for PVMS middle school boys to cultivate character, self-discipline, motivation and confidence while using basketball as a reward as the boys are held to a high standard excellence. Boy participants regularly review their grades and are able to get homework assistance if needed. Meeting days are Tuesdays after school from 2:30–4:10pm. On these days all L.O.G participants are expected to dress professionally to reinforce positive self-image.
