Volunteer- Confidentiality Training Course

Thank you for your interest in volunteering within the Howard County School System! We value our volunteers and the contributions they make to our students and schools.

According to HCPSS Board Policy, all parent volunteers must complete a Confidentiality Training Course about protecting the privacy of our students, staff, and schools.

Child Abuse/Neglect Training Course

Maryland State Law requires that Volunteers, including Parent Volunteers, complete annual Child Abuse Training prior to serving as a volunteer in any school.  Child Abuse Training provides volunteers with the opportunity to learn about child abuse reporting procedures when abuse is suspected.

We are asking that each of our volunteers complete Child Abuse Training prior to volunteering. If you have not yet completed the training, please use this link to view the attached PowerPoint presentation.  Once you have viewed each slide, please fill our the form and return it to Patuxent Valley MS.

Thank you again for your participation in our school and helping to ensure that each of our students remains safe.

Gifted and Talented Program

What are G/T Seminars?

G/T instructional seminars are designed to extend student interests beyond the regular classroom. In these seminars, students develop a broad range of advanced-level skills for in-depth study and creation of a product or presentation.  Many of the seminars will include guest speakers or field trip opportunities, so students can work with experts in an area of interest. Seminars are open to ALL STUDENTS.

Important Things to Remember:

  • Since the seminars meet during the school day, you must be responsible for all make up work, and keep grades up in your classes.
  • Staple monthly pass in agenda, and write seminar in agenda in the period/ day for the teacher to sign.  Ask if you can be dismissed.
  • Reminders are also posted in the seminar "course" in Canvas.
  • If a test, lab, or other class where it is difficult to make up work, then you should stay in class. Please see me or email me regarding any missed work.

Seminar Descriptions:  If you are interested in one or two of these seminars, you must apply for the seminar(s). Applications were due in September. If a student applies late, he or she must check availability with Mrs. Chelidona first. Here are the seminar descriptions
