November

Dear PVMS families,

Last month we rolled out Naviance Student to our middle school students and families.  Naviance is a program that students will utilize from middle school all the way through high school. It is able to be translated into more than 75 languages so all HCPSS families are able to access and use it.

Naviance Student allows your student to:

  • Get involved in the planning and advising process – Build a resume, complete online surveys, and manage deadlines for colleges and careers.

  • Research careers – Research hundreds of careers and take career assessments.

  • Create plans for the future – Create goals to better prepare your student for future college and career goals.

  • Naviance Student also lets us share information with you and your student about upcoming meetings and events, scholarship opportunities, and other resources.

Our 6th grade students have already begun to learn about their learning styles from taking the Learning and Productivity assessment. By Tuesday, November 4th all of our 6th graders would have completed their Learning and Productivity assessment which will reveal the ways they learn best and how they can be most productive. Our 8th graders have taken their strengths self- assessment and in NOvember our 7th graders will be taking their Personality Self Assessment. We encourage all families to ask to see their students self-assessment summaries.

In an effort to support our students in being college and career ready, we are expanding opportunities to provide career awareness to our students. At PVMS, we will be hosting a Career Cafe for our 6th-8th graders to expose students to a variety of careers. On Friday, November 1st our career speaker is a Doula, representing the Health and Bioscience Career cluster. Our next session will be Friday, November 22nd. We are looking for speakers in the Construction & Development career cluster. We are ALWAYS looking for speakers to participate in monthly virtual panel discussions, and/or to engage with our students as an in-person speaker. Please fill out this form to indicate if and how you would like to partner with the Career Readiness Advisors to broaden student exposure through your career journey, EVEN IF your career does not fall into one of the spotlighted clusters.
