Dear PVMS families,
Last month we rolled out Naviance Student to our middle school students and families. Naviance is a program that students will utilize from middle school all the way through high school. It is able to be translated into more than 75 languages so all HCPSS families are able to access and use it.
Naviance Student allows your student to:
- Get involved in the planning and advising process – Build a resume, complete online surveys, and manage deadlines for colleges and careers.
 - Research careers – Research hundreds of careers and take career assessments.
 - Create plans for the future – Create goals to better prepare your student for future college and career goals.
 - Naviance Student also lets us share information with you and your student about upcoming meetings and events, scholarship opportunities, and other resources.

This month our Career Cluster Spotlights Maryland's Construction sector. This cluster encompasses a diverse range of careers focused on designing, planning, building, and maintaining the physical structures and infrastructure that shape our communities – from homes and schools to roads and bridges. It’s a field that demands a blend of creativity, precision, and practical application.
Construction is a foundational and growing industry in Maryland, offering thousands of local jobs that directly impact our daily lives. Many positions provide accessible pathways through apprenticeships and technical training, allowing students to "earn while they learn" and avoid significant student debt. These careers often come with strong earning potential and excellent job stability.
November's Career Cafe will take place on Thursday, November 20th. If you are interested in speaking for this month's Career Cafe please complete this form.
If you are interested in hearing about Career Academies, there is a March 2 Future VIrtual session on November 12th at 7pm. This is a great session for 8th graders or any middle school families who want to get a head start learning about the opportunities in HCPSS for students. Experts from HCPSS will share all the opportunities that HCPSS offers within our Career Academy Program including programs at the ARL, apprenticeship opportunities, and career academies offered within each high school. Click on this Link to register.
Current 8th grade students and their parents/guardians are also invited to attend in-person information sessions on HCPSS career academies on Tuesday, Nov. 11 and Wednesday, Dec. 10 at the Applications and Research Laboratory, 10920 Clarksville Pike, Ellicott City. The evening will include two 15-minute information sessions beginning at 6:40 p.m.
Participants will learn how Career and Technical Education (CTE) career academies provide high school students with opportunities to earn college credit, scholarships, and industry-recognized credentials, participate in worksite and mentorship experiences, and become creative problem solvers by participating in hands-on project-based learning.
Complete information on all career academies is available online. Students/parents are encouraged to review the Career Academies Overview.
