Congratulations to our new ITS Inductees
Seven new students have earned admittance into the International Thespian Society or ITS. ITS is an honor society for theatre students. Students earn points through performance, crew participation, and/or completion of a yearlong theatre arts course in order to qualify for admittance. An induction ceremony is planned for February 12. All are welcome to support these young people in their accomplishment.
Congratulations go to Ann Ball, Uma Goldberg, Emery Ware, Kincade Edwards, Elek Devaser, Jessicah Bhanu, and John Rumsey. They will join the ten members currently in the troupe.
New This Year - A Winter Play
Yes, for the first time, we are adding a third production at PVMS. Into Thin Heir is a mystery play, complete with a small-time detective and a variety of characters that each want a piece of Mr. Hawkthorne’s inheritance. One of them tried to do away with the rightful heir but who?
This production is being staged by students in the Theatre Arts A class. There are no tickets but audience members are asked to make a donation to support the theatre program at PVMS.
The one night performance will be held on February 12, at 7 pm.
Following the performance, new International Thespian Society (ITS) members will be inducted.
Everyone is invited to attend this evening’s performance, whether or not you have a friend or family member performing.
A Comedy of Errors is coming to a theatre near you!
PVMS Theatre Department is pleased to present our spring play, an adapted rendition of Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors. The comedy stems from a case of mistaken identity when twins separated as infants are mistaken for each other when the one happens to arrive at the same town in which the other lives. But it’s not just one set of twins but two sets of twins.
This comedy incorporates slapstick and outrageous humor as the twins and the townsfolk try to make sense of confusion and denials.
Thirty-six students are currently in rehearsals to bring this show to life on our very own stage. Another half dozen are working hard to create the backdrop and fit costumes.
Mark your calendars for April 16 - 18. Check for future announcements about times and tickets, or go to hcpss.booktix.com when we get closer to the performances.
Family and Friends of PVMS Theatre
Did you know that everyone can donate to the theater program at PVMS? It’s as simple as writing a check. Please make it out to Patuxent Valley Middle School and address the envelope to PVMS in care of Theatre Director, Laural Clark, so that the money can be directed into the theater account. 100% of money donated will go to supporting theater productions (paying for scripts, costuming, sets, lighting, and the sound system) or the PVMS ITS Troupe (to be used to pay membership fees). Please designate on the check which fund you would like to support (General Theatre Fund or ITS).
Theatre Arts A Sign-ups
It won’t be long before 6th and 7th grade students will be offered the opportunity to sign up for their two electives for next year. Theatre Arts A is one of their choices.
Theatre Arts A offers a high school level curriculum and experience in theatre education. Theatre Arts A and Theatre Arts B, the second year middle school course, provide the same learning objectives and content as the high school course, Theatre Arts I. Students are then able to audition into advanced theatre courses in high school.
Through various learning experiences, students learn not only about theatre, but develop acting skills, public speaking, problem solving, and collaboration skills. New: Students in this course have the opportunity to engage in three productions, performed for the community, instead of just two. This includes experiences in performing, sound crew, light board operator, and stage crew.
If you have any questions, please contact Laural Clark, Theatre Teacher and Director at laural_clark@hcpss.org.
